At OurRaceCar.com our goal is to make owning a race car accessible to everybody. We all know how hard it is when our favourite team makes a questionable decision; sometimes we think we could manage a team better than the actual owners. Well here is the chance.
So how does it work?
OurRaceCar.com is set up to allow everybody to have an equal say in how the team is run. It is a democratic community of likeminded fans of automotive racing where every major decision is voted on by its members.
To become a member please follow the link here, or at the top of the page to sign up. You will be asked to fill out the signup sheet including your payment method.
Once 20,000 members have joined we will close the polls deciding which series to compete in and whether to purchase an existing team or start our own. Why 20,000 members? OurRaceCar.com has set 20,000 as the target number of members because at that point we believe we will be financially stable enough as a group to launch a successful racing team.
Depending on financial requirements we may need to take on a partner to enter into the desired series. If this is the case all sponsors and partners will meet the following criteria.
1) They will be approved by the members via an open vote.
2) They will have no say in the votes once accepted.
3) They cannot own more than 49% of the company.
The membership fee:
Membership to OurRaceCar.com is $50 USD. Of that amount, $40 (80%) goes towards starting OurRaceCar.com racing and the financing of the fees incurred by the team. $10 (20%) of the fee goes towards the administration of the OurRaceCar.com website. The membership fee is annual*; members can choose to pay for a maximum of 3 years. Members must arrange to renew their membership before the end of the last month of membership to ensure they do not lose any position in seniority. Members will be notified before their membership runs out.
*Although the membership fee is annual, the term of membership does not begin until a race car is purchased. For example, if Member A joins on January 22nd 2009, and OurRaceCar.com purchases a car on December 23rd 2009 then Member A’s membership will expire on December 23rd 2010, not January 22nd 2010.
The Board and Team Manager:
Once we have collected 20,000 members and decided which series to compete in OurRaceCar.com Racing will be formed and 3 members will be selected by the members to sit on the Board of Directors along with the President of OurRaceCar.com and the Team Manager. These members will be responsible for ensuring that the members’ interests are represented fairly.
After the board has been chosen voting will be held to fill the position of team manager. The team manager will be responsible for the day to day running of the team, as well as keeping the members updated with a weekly blog. The team manager will also come up with the short lists for things like drivers, cars, and the car set ups to be voted upon.
